With local roots in the Lake Elsinore area, Dr. Carrillo obtained her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, ranked No.1 among U.S. veterinary schools by U.S. News & World Report. In 2011, Dr. Carrillo was invited to join the respected team at her hometown’s Lake Elsinore Animal Hospital. Here, she contributes a comprehensive breadth of knowledge along with targeted skill in veterinary dentistry.
Albert Yoon, DVM
A native of San Jose, California, Dr. Yoon earned his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Davis; he returned several years later to the university’s No.1-ranked veterinary school to obtain his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After earning his doctorate, Dr. Yoon continued his training via a yearlong rotating internship at Animal Specialty & Emergency Center (ASEC) in West Los Angeles. Upon completion of his internship, he joined the team at Norco Animal Hospital in 2011, where he adds value via his expansive veterinary dexterity.
Anne Lorkowski, DVM
Proudly serving the California Veterinary Medical Board as a hospital inspector and expert witness, Dr. Lorkowski received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the top-ranked University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Over the course of her career, Dr. Lorkowski has practiced throughout the Inland Empire, San Bernardino Mountains, and High Desert. In 2015, she accepted a position at Norco Animal Hospital, where she delivers specialized expertise in toxicology and infectious diseases. Outside the clinic, Dr. Lorkowski splits her time between Lake Arrowhead and Riverside.
Beth Sperka, DVM, MS
Dr. Beth Sperka has always had a passion for all animals, from marine animals and wildlife to her own cats and dogs. She knew from a young age growing up in Ocean City, Maryland, that she wanted to work with animals.
She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the biological sciences field, becoming certified in human cytogenetics while working for Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the University of Chicago during her studies.
She was then accepted into the Western University of Health Science’s veterinary program in 2004, graduating with her DVM in 2008 and practicing veterinary medicine in California ever since! She especially enjoys clinical pathology, internal medicine, dental care, and routine wellness examinations.
At home, Dr. Sperka and her husband, John, live with several pets of their own. They have two dogs, Brodie and Maia, as well as a pair of lovable cats who go by Zachary and Romeo. In her precious spare time, Dr. Sperka likes catching up on television shows with her husband, reading fiction novels, and writing.
Cho Cha, DVM
Born and raised in Korea, Dr. Cha earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the No.1 nationally ranked School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis. Upon graduation, she completed a yearlong rotating internship at California Veterinary Specialists’ Murrieta and Carlsbad locations. In 2013, Dr. Cha joined Norco Animal Hospital, where she brings specialized skill in soft-tissue surgery, internal medicine, oncology, and radiology.
David Kim, DVM
Dr. Kim is a native of Southern California who joined Norco Animal Hospital in 2017, where his areas of special interest include internal medicine, radiology and endocrinology. He earned his undergraduate degree in biological sciences from California State University, Fullerton, and completed his veterinary studies at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona. His previous experience includes time working at numerous veterinary specialty hospitals throughout Southern California. Dr. Kim shares his home with three dogs and a cat. His hobbies include cooking and eating (“Best hobby ever!”), watching and playing basketball, going to the gym, and he considers watching Netflix to be his favorite guilty pleasure.
Ed Shin, DVM
Hailing from Sacramento but based in Southern California for the last 20 years, Dr. Shin earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the top nationally ranked School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis. Post-graduation, he completed his internship in internal medicine, surgery, and emergency care prior to coming on board at Norco Animal Hospital in 2007. While continuing his practice at Norco Animal Hospital, he joined the team at Lake Elsinore Animal Hospital in 2011 and at Valley Veterinary Hospital of Murrieta in 2014. Adept in treating a variety of dog and cat breeds, Dr. Shin delivers distinguished skill in emergency care, endocrinology, and preventive medicine to the SCVG family of practices.
Guy Tarvin, DVM, ACVS
A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Dr. Tarvin received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed his internship and residency training at New York’s renowned Animal Medical Center, following which, he moved to Illinois to take an assistant professor role at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois. In 1984, Dr. Tarvin again relocated, this time to California, where he founded the groundbreaking Veterinary Surgical Specialists—San Diego County’s first veterinary referral surgical practice. In 2005, he accepted an invitation to join Valley Veterinary Hospital of Murrieta. In addition to general veterinary medicine, Dr. Tarvin specializes in the management and repair of hip, pelvic, and knee injuries, including arthroscopy and reconstructive joint surgery. He is also certified in stem cell collection for the treatment of various orthopedic conditions.
Kermit Smith, DVM
Recognized as Best Veterinarian by Inland Empire Magazine in 2004, Dr. Smith graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. Here, he double majored in Animal Science and Dairy Science before completing his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Smith soon returned to his native state of California where he began practicing in Upland. In 1989, he founded Norco Animal Hospital. In addition to his work at SCVG, Dr. Smith lends his expertise to Norco Animal Control, caring for the medical needs of shelter animals.
Kirsten Hentz, DVM
Dr. Hentz is a California native whose veterinary experience has taken her throughout California and to the other side of the world.
She grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and went on to earn her bachelor of science degree in animal science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Upon graduation she moved to Central Valley to complete an internship at a referral equine hospital, followed by a couple years working at a Quarter Horse breeding farm.
When the time came to pursue her veterinary degree, her love of travel took her to Massey University in New Zealand, which provided her with an exceptional accredited education and countless memorable experiences unique to the area. During her time there she was a member of the emergency and critical care club, the radiology and diagnostic imaging club, and the wildlife club, and she treated native wildlife like kiwis and penguins.
Dr. Hentz returned to the States and participated in externships at a variety of clinics before joining Lake Elsinore Animal Hospital, and she is happy to be back home in California. She currently resides in Temecula with her 15-year-old Jack Russel Terrier, Chewie, and enjoys hiking, horseback riding, scuba diving, and movies.
Tajinder Pawar, DVM
A member of the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), Dr. Pawar graduated from Orissa Veterinary College in his native country of India. After earning his degree, he completed a one-year rotating internship in small- and large-animal medicine and surgery, following which, he perfected his practice at a clinic specializing in the rescue and treatment of abandoned and neglected animals, both farm and domestic. Upon relocating to the U.S., Dr. Pawar swiftly passed his examinations for U.S. National Board and Equivalency Certification for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) to obtain his DVM qualifications in 2014. That same year, Dr. Pawar was licensed by the California Veterinary Medical Board, and, in 2015, he joined the team at Lake Elsinore Animal Hospital, bringing with him specialized passion and prowess in small-animal medicine and soft-tissue surgery.
Timothy Runion, DVM
Another SCVG SoCal native, Dr. Runion received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine (ranked #1 nationally). Following graduation, he continued his training via a yearlong rotating internship at Sacramento Animal Medical Group; upon completion, his outstanding performance earned him an invitation to stay on as an associate. In 2016, he returned home to Southern California and joined the staff at Norco Animal Hospital. Here, he leverages his years of specialized experience to help the hospital uniquely meet the needs of bulldogs and similar breeds.
